Police make arrests after violent robbers threaten occupants of home in Kirkby In Ashfield

Robbers working under the pretence of interested car buyers threatened a couple in their own home.

The incident happened on Tuesday, September 20, at an address in Kirkby-in-Ashfield.

Two men had contacted the owner of a vehicle for sale online and attended the address to view it.

Once inside their home, they threatened the couple with violence as the brave couple fought back, and the suspects made off on foot.

A team of detectives worked around the clock to locate the suspects and several warrants were carried out in the Yorkshire area on Thursday, September 22.

A 38-year-old man and a 19-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and remain in police custody.

Detective Inspector Paul Lefford said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the two innocent victims in this case. They thought the pair were legitimate buyers for the vehicle before they became violent in a bid to steal items from the occupants once inside.

“No one should have to experience this violent behaviour in their own home. A dedicated investigation team supported by our Operation Reacher and Operational support colleagues have worked day and night to ensure the suspects for this crime were swiftly identified.

"Search warrants were executed in a neighbouring force area and two suspects were identified and arrested within 48 hours. I hope this shows how seriously we take these offences.

“If you think you can rob someone of something they have worked hard to gain in Nottinghamshire, then think again.”
